Hello and Welcome to Talking with Your Mouth Full. The Eating Blog.

Amanda.BlogI am Amanda T-Lee, a cake decorator/pastry chef based in Adelaide, Australia. I am Malaysian-Chinese, born and raised in a Malaysian home that was always full of delicious eats. I learnt to stew curries, bake creme caramels and roll sushi the moment my head reached the kitchen bench and most of my fondest memories have always been around the dining table with those nearest and dearest.

In 2008, I packed my bags and headed to Le Cordon Bleu Sydney where I pursued my aspirations of becoming a pâtissier. Starting the day elbow deep in chocolate and rushing to complete cake assignments was a dream and I savored each sugar-coated day.  Subsequently, I picked up a scholarship to continue Restaurant Business studies and so made the big move to Adelaide. In the following years I worked in kitchens and restaurants in both Adelaide and Melbourne starting in the wee-hours of dawn till the last moments of midnight; all the while eating & cooking my way throughout Australia and abroad.

Two years ago, after a momentary “break” from hospitality I fell into cake decorating when a friend requested a birthday cake for his wife. I took to it like a duck to water and loved how it melded together my love for pastry and creative art. And so after a training stint in Asia and after decorating countless cakes in my kitchen, I launched Sugar Sugar Cakes, which specialises in creating bespoke Cake Centrepieces and Dessert Buffets. My signature style is Modern Vintage, and I love subtlety paired with a touch of pizzazz. In addition to that, I’ve made cakes ranging from teapots to tigers, bowls of laksa to sound-tech equipment and everything in between.

This blog is home to recipes, experiments and experiences of all things food-related. If you eat and love it, you place is here.

Read, ponder and be entertained.
